The SLSM Library is the Heart of the School

The Sri Lankan School Muscat Library metaphorically is the heart of the school. It is well organized for students and teachers to quench their thirst for knowledge and it is the place where most students develop the vital and lovely habit of reading.

The SLSM library has a variety of Print and Non-print Materials, informative Daily & Weekly Newspapers from Oman & Sri Lanka, Periodicals and Foreign University Catalogues etc. The collection of books includes, the absorbing Encyclopaedias (Britannica, Columbia, World Book, Lexicon Universal, Children's Britanica and McGraw-Hill), Language Dictionaries, Thesaurus, English Usage, Quotations, Phrase and Fables - a must developing language skills. Moving on to books on Fine Arts, magnificent English Literature, Intriguing Ancient and Modern Histories of the World, Geography & Travel, Myths & Legends, rib tickling Satire & Humour, soul searching Biographies, Education, Idealism & Spiritualism, wonderful Psychology, Sports & Indoor Games, Home Economics, Health Science, Natural Sciences, inspiring motivational books from Simple Truths and subjects relevant to the school curriculum, you name it, SLSM Library & Resource Centre has it!

Our library collection has grown immensely during the years, according to the school curriculum to meet the demands of students and teachers. Additionally, the other materials like Leisure Reading, Fiction, General Knowledge and books on Miscellaneous Writings started growing rapidly through the donations and various other sources.

The Library has gradually become a well-equipped and computerized net working library following the Anglo American Cataloguing Rules 2 (AACR2) and Dewy Decimal Classification System (DDC) to organize print and non-print materials.

Looking back the vista of years, the SLSM Library has grown from a sapling into a great and magnificent tree, giving shade and solace to many with its silent friends waiting on the shelves, to be picked up, to comfort its readers.

"A Library is...

the nucleus of the school." It should be a place that welcomes those who need to quench their thirst for knowledge or information. It should be a place where children come happily and keenly to get information. It should be a place with pleasant atmosphere and resources to help the users.
